Daily Motivational - Don't Be All Talk

We can talk about becoming healthier all we want, but until we stop talking and actually doing something about it nothing will ever change.

Daily Motivational

Making that lifestyle change to become healthier can be very difficult physically, mentally, and emotionally; but, when you get through those difficult times it is definitely worth it! And if you're fortunate like me, you have amazing support from other people that get you through those tough times. I couldn't do it without my trainers, friends, and family encouraging me every step of the way!

Daily Motivational - Bump In The Road

Yesterday when I weighed in I gained just a little, not even a half a pound, but it's still frustrating when I look back and really can't pinpoint why I didn't lose. I know over the weekend I didn't sleep as much, or as well, because we stayed so busy; and then my trainer pointed out a couple low calorie days on my food journal. Last night my trainer also told me not to worry, it's just a bump in the road. So, when I saw this quote this morning it made me realize there have been many bumps in the last two years, and will probably be many more in the future. But, it also made me realize I haven't completely failed and as long as I don't give up I will not fail. As you encounter your own bumps in the road, just remember to keep going and you will succeed!

Daily Motivational - Are You An Emotional Eater?

Many of us tend to turn to food to deal with certain emotions, such as anxiety, depression, boredom, etc. And instead of eating when we have these moments, if we would find some type of activity our bodies would be better off, and we would feel better afterwards as well. Even if it's just for a walk, it would be better than indulging in overeating.

Daily Motivational - Moments Of Doubt

I have days where I'm wondering if I'll be able to hit my goals or even make it through my workout. I've done this many times, where I've wanted to skip a workout or cardio session. But then after I really think about it, I realize by doing that I'm not getting any closer to my goals. We had a busy weekend with mother's day and my nephews graduation, and then on top of that I wasn't feeling well. I have been a little off track the past week or so, but finally feeling somewhat normal and back on track. I know I can hit my goals, I just need to quit doubting myself and get back to work.

Daily Motivational - Do You Have Challenges?

Well based on this quote, my life has been VERY interesting lately! It's been very difficult for me to not let some things I have no control over bother me. Even though my leg is doing a lot better, I still have to watch it and not overdo it. It's always good to plan ahead, which I always try to do, but sometimes when you have life throwing out multiple challenges at once it's best to step back and just focus on one day at a time. I just have to make sure today is what it needs to be and don't worry about what I'm doing tomorrow or the rest of this week. So, regardless of what your challenges are in your life, eventually you'll get through them and your life will be even better.

Daily Motivational - What's Your Excuse?

I know it's been a few days since I've been on here, but I've been focusing on some personal stuff that has occupied most of my time. Not to sound selfish, but I did have a lot of time refocusing on myself and my goals. But, and this is off the health/fitness subject, I also had to make a very hard decision regarding my 14 year old dog Yogi. She's been sick for quite some time. She's unable to use her back legs, we think she's going blind in one eye, and is in a lot of pain. And as hard as it was, we know she's just suffering, so today we are taking her in to be put to a final rest. I'll miss her greatly, but at least she won't be in pain.

Now, back to the purpose of this blog! You guys are amazing and I know several of you personally who are doing an outstanding job at staying focused on your goals and are making great progress! Keep up the great work! But, I do from time to time hear comments from others of why they don't workout. The two biggest reasons are time and money.

So, instead of a quote, I found this video that I thought was great! If having a gym membership or personal trainer is not an option due to financial reasons, use your surroundings wisely. An example from the video, and I can't recall the exact name for that style of push-up, but I've done the same thing using a medicine ball. He just found an alternative way by using a rock. So, look around you and utilize what you have. Really, there are no excuses!

Daily Motivational - The Importance Of Balance

Being able to balance everything in your life can be difficult at times, and if things get too off balanced, sometimes your life can start feeling as if it's getting out of control. For me personally, I have my job, workouts, family, friends, and then myself. There have been many times that I've allowed one thing to have a negative impact on another, simply by not having balance. And when this happens, a lot of the times I have to stop what I'm doing, take a step back and refocus on life.

There have been many times I've allowed my job to carry over into my personal life and let it effect my mood. I know it's important to leave work at work, there's nothing I can do about it once I leave anyway. But, sometimes it's hard for me to do that, and it really does impact other parts of my life. Since I go straight from work to my workouts, typically that's what is effected the most. I go in to the fitness center mentally tired and in a bad mood and then I'm not focused on my workouts and don't get the most out of them. And every once in awhile, no matter how hard I try, I have to just refocus and remind myself I can't let these things bother me.

The other thing that tends to be neglected the most when I don't balance my life, is myself. I really try to balance my life where I keep work at work, and then outside of that I balance time for my workouts, family, friends, and then even for myself. But, I tend to neglect myself the most, and that can make me feel overwhelmed. It's important to take time for yourself. Sometimes I'll grab a book and go to a local Starbucks or Camille's and have lunch/coffee by myself while I read. I've even taken a weekend and went out of town by myself and just enjoyed a couple days to reflect on my life. Something I'm doing today, is I'm having a 'ME DAY'. This is where I treat myself to something, and today I'm having my nails done, pedicure, lunch with a friend, a little shopping, and then tomorrow I'm having my hair done.

So, regardless of what all you have going on in your life, the important thing is to find balance. And when you find that balance, at some point I guarantee you something will start making you feel like life's spinning all around you, and that's when you need to: STOP, FOCUS, RE-BALANCE. Because having a happy life isn't about what or who you have in your life; but about how you well you balance your life.

Daily Motivational - Don't Stay Down

I know I've felt knocked down many times in the past couple years. There are days, or even weeks, I feel defeated and don't know if I'm going to be able to move forward and be successful. But, something or someone, always reminds me what I've accomplished so far and that I need to refocus and get back in there. And it's not important how may times you fall or have failed; the important thing is you don't just give up, but that you stand up and get back in there.

Daily Motivational - It's Worth It

I'm still struggling this week, and a lot of it is from mental frustration due to my leg still hurting. I get so frustrated when I have to modify an exercise. Even though I know the modifications are temporary, and the purpose is to avoid any type of further injury or even permanent injury, I still feel I'm not putting a 100% into my workouts. Then that causes me to feel I'm not getting everything I should out of my workouts. And then on top of that all I lost was half a pound this week, which basically is what I gained last week.

This led to another, what I call a heart to heart talk with my trainer last night. There were a few tears, and unfortunately they weren't his tears. And after several minutes of him questioning me, and not accepting "I don't know" as an answer, it really came down to my frustration and that I didn't feel like doing my cardio like I normally would. He empathizes with my frustrations and he's not making me feel like I've totally failed, but what he doesn't want me to do is get into a mindset that it's acceptable each week; because if I do then two weeks turns into six weeks of no progress and there really is no excuse for that.

When I got home last night I went through my past daily motivationals I've posted these past couple months, and I thought to myself; why is it I know what and when to say these things to motivate others; yet, it's difficult for me to stay motivated? To be honest, I think it goes back to that saying, "It's easier said than done". So, with that thought, I went back to this quote I've seen before. I can actually hear my trainer's voice inside my head telling me this. And it's true, it's not an easy journey; but when I get to my final goal, it'll definitely be worth it.

Daily Motivational - Five Simple Steps

Short, sweet, and to the point this morning! Five simple steps to becoming healthier! And something I've learned from experience, even if you slack on only one of these, it can keep you from making progress.
